About The Spanish Blitz
The Spanish Blitz is a vocabulary-practice tool for Spanish learners and the teachers who work with them. It exists because the gap between a Spanish class and real recall is practice — and practice is the part that usually does not happen between lessons.
What the site is
The Spanish Blitz turns a vocabulary list into four kinds of practice: reading the word, hearing it, typing it, and saying it out loud. Every study session mixes those modes so a word is not just recognised on a card but retrieved from memory under a little pressure.
Alongside the app there is a free, open phrasebook at /learn — short written lessons on greetings, numbers, verbs, food, travel, time and more. Those lessons need no account and are free to read.
Why we built it
Most vocabulary apps are built for solo learners and ignore the classroom entirely. Teachers we spoke to had the opposite problem: they could assign a word list, but had no way to see whether anyone practised it, and no way to make that practice feel like anything other than homework.
So The Spanish Blitz was built around the class as well as the individual. Teachers create classrooms, assign Missions from their own vocabulary sets, and see who actually practised. Students get the timed Blitz Challenge — a live, competitive round the whole class plays together — as the reward at the end of it.
How it works
- Study Mode — spaced flashcard practice with instant feedback on every card.
- Voice practice — say the Spanish out loud and get feedback on what was recognised.
- Written answers — type the translation so spelling and accents stick, not just recognition.
- Solo Blitz — a timed round against the clock to test recall under pressure.
- Blitz Challenge — a live multiplayer round a teacher hosts for a whole classroom.
- Classrooms and Missions — teachers assign specific sets with deadlines and track completion.
Who it is for
Students in a Spanish course who want the vocabulary from their own class to stick, and Spanish teachers who want practice between lessons to be visible and worth doing. It is a companion to a Spanish course, not a replacement for one.
How the site is funded
The Spanish Blitz is free to use on the Free plan, which is supported by advertising. An optional paid membership removes ads and lifts the limits on sets, classrooms and challenges. Pricing is listed in full on the Pricing page.
